Lincoln Aviator SUV Recalled for Potential Car Fires

Ford Motor Co. wants another look at some 36,000 Lincoln Aviator sport utility vehicles, citing a defect that the company says could cause the cars to go up in flames.
A loose wiring harness may come in contact with the cars’ air conditioner pulley, Ford recently told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to the company, if the pulley wears through the harness over time, it may cause a short circuit that could lead to a fire.
The recall covers certain Lincoln Aviators from model years 2020 and 2021. According to Consumer Reports, the company said it is not aware of any accidents caused by the defect.
Ford said it would begin contacting owners of recalled cars on July 30. It is asking owners to bring their cars to a local dealer for an inspection and possible repairs, free of charge.
Ford Also Recalling Explorers
The Aviator SUVs are not the only cars that Ford has recently had to call back over serious safety issues.
Earlier this month, the company announced that it is also recalling some 775,000 Ford Explorer SUVs over a steering defect that could cause drivers to lose control of the vehicles. The move came after reports of at least six accidents related to the defect.
Fortunately, Ford and other drivers in California have some important rights and protections under the state’s lemon law. A seasoned lemon law attorney can help fight back if you have been stuck with a defective or malfunctioning car.
The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act requires carmakers to perform a variety of repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. If the company is unable or unwilling to fix the problem, it is required to buy back the vehicle. That includes compensating the owner for the purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs and other related expenses.
A manufacturer can instead offer to replace the vehicle, but it is up to the owner to decide whether to accept or reject this alternative arrangement. An experienced attorney will help you navigate the legal process and get the best possible result.
