Subaru is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles over a transmission control problem that the company told federal regulators increases the risk of a crash. A software problem could cause the drive train to slip if the shift select is moved to Drive or Reverse immediately after the engine is started, Subaru said in a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That would cause the vehicles to lose power, according to Subaru.

U.S. auto safety regulators are reportedly ramping up a series of investigations into engine problems and car fires in a variety of Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The probes cover more than 3 million vehicles from model years 2011 to 2016, according to the Detroit Free Press. NHTSA has received at least 161 complaints about engine failure or car fires, the news outlet reports.
