The Latest List of Lemon Vehicles

Everyone wants a safe and reliable motor vehicle. Unfortunately, some people end up purchasing less than reliable cars -- even when they have spent a large amount of money on a brand new automobile. That said, it is important for consumers to know what cars are most likely to be problematic.

Car buyers also need to be aware of what recourse, if any, they may have if a vehicle they buy turns out to have serious problems. San Diego lemon attorneys can provide personalized insight into the options a car buyer has if a vehicle turns out to be a lemon vehicle.

Be Sure to Check the List Before Buying

Lemon attorneys can help you take legal action against the appropriate parties, but it is always best to avoid buying a lemon vehicle in the first place. Doing your research and exploring reliability ratings can help you reduce your chances of buying a car that will have serious defects.

One starting point in your search for a new car is to check out the list in SF Gate, which summarizes data from Consumer Reports on the 2016 lemon vehicles to avoid. The cars on the list are the bottom picks from Consumer Reports and they earned the lowest overall scores in their respective categories.  These include:

  • The Mitsubishi Mirage was the lowest-rated of all sub-compact vehicles. Its weak engine and sluggish acceleration were concerns for Consumer Reports, which pushed it to the bottom of the list in this category.
  • The Fiat 500L was the lowest-rated compact car. Flat seats, a stiff ride, and a low road test score were the issues associated with this vehicle.
  • The Chrysler 200 was the lowest-rated mid-sized sedan. Transmission reliability issues lowered the rating of this car.
  • The Mercedes Benz CLA250 received the lowest scores of all compact luxury cars. The problem was noise, engine performance, transmission issues, and a lack of reliability.
  • The Lincoln MKS was the lowest-rated midsize luxury vehicle. Issues for this one included an outdated appearance and a poor ride.
  • The Dodge Journey was the lowest-rated family SUV because of below-average reliability and poor gas mileage.
  • The Land Rover Discovery Sport was the lowest-rated compact luxury SUV. Reliability was described as below average and acceleration was spiky.
  • The Cadillac Escalade received the lowest ratings of all large luxury SUVs. The reliability issues of the redesigned vehicle meant the Cadillac ranked the worst in its class.
  • The Chrysler Town and Country received the lowest ranking of any minivan due to uncomfortable seating and terrible gas mileage.
  • The Mitsubishi i-MiEV received the lowest rating of any green car because it was cramped and had a very low range before needing a charge.

Whether you buy a car from this list or purchase a car that is generally reliable, the reality is that any car could potentially have issues. If your vehicle turns out to have repeated problems or has substantial defects that affect its operation, you should speak with a lemon attorney as soon as possible to find out more about your legal options.
