California BMW Lemon Lawyer

BMW makes high-end, luxury vehicles and stresses the precision design and engineering of their cars. Unfortunately, notwithstanding their high price, many BMW vehicles suffer serious warranty defects.

These problems may present serious headaches for people who own or lease BMWs and may even cause BMW vehicles to be unsafe to drive and be hazardous to operate on California roads and freeways. Oftentimes, the problems are so widespread that BMW will release internal service bulletins for known systemic vehicle defects.

If you drive a BMW in California and are experiencing problems that BMW’s dealerships have been unable to fix within a reasonable time or reasonable number of repair attempts, you may benefit from the representation of an experienced California lemon law attorney. For qualifying vehicles, a California BMW lemon lawyer at Bickel Sannipoli APC can help you take action to protect your rights and seek to have BMW repurchase your vehicle and pay damages pursuant to the California Lemon Law.

Common Problems With BMWs

BMWs are often priced at a premium over other cars. Unfortunately, repairs can also be very expensive if they are not properly repaired within the warranty period. Many BMW owners know just how pricey mechanical issues can be.

Here are some of the most common defects reported by BMW owners in California.

  • Engine: Engine problems can make vehicles inoperable. They also can increase the risk of collisions by causing vehicles to stop abruptly with little or no warning.
  • Airbags: These vital safety devices are meant to help reduce and avoid injuries when accidents happen. Sadly, there have been reports of malfunctioning and even exploding airbags in a variety of different makes and models.
  • Software: BMWs are increasingly reliant on computers and software technology. When software malfunctions, it can result in a wide range of problems, from malfunctioning dashboard controls, bluetooth, navigation, and the central system control.
  • Electrical: Problems with wiring and sensors can wreak havoc on cars, causing everything from system glitches to power failures.
  • Braking: Fractured brake pedals and defective rear brake linings are just some of the issues that BMW drivers have experienced.
  • Fuel pump: Failing and defective fuel pumps can cause engines to stall unexpectedly, posing a serious safety hazard.
  • Oil and fluid leaks: Fluid leaks can be the result of a wide range of different problems, from soiling consumers’ garages and driveways to malfunctioning engine or transmission systems.
  • Air Conditioning: A/C and ventilation systems are particularly important for driver and passenger comfort and, in severe conditions, even safety. Climate control systems have often failed in various BMW models.

Recent BMW Recalls

BMW has issued a string of car recalls in recent years, highlighting the myriad defects and malfunctions facing people who drive the automaker’s vehicles.

Faulty Braking System

BMW announced that it was recalling roughly 1.5 million vehicles around the globe. The recall includes about 270,000 cars in the U.S., covering models such from the 5-Series, 7-Series and various BMW crossovers, as well as certain Mini vehicles and the Rolls Royce Spectre.

The company said the cars were equipped with defective braking systems which increase the risk of crashes. According to BMW, some of its cars need the entire system replaced as a result of the brake problem.

X-Series SUV Fires

BMW also said that it was recalling nearly three-quarters of a million sport utility vehicles at risk of going up in flames. The recall covered various X1, X3, X4 and X5 SUVs.

The company blamed a water pump defect for the recall. BMW said pumps could short circuit and cause fires if exposed to water.

iX SUV Cruise Control Defect

The company recently recalled some 11,000 iX sport utility vehicles for problems with the cars’ cruise control systems.

The cars’ cruise control systems could be accidentally activated by drivers while behind the wheel, BMW told federal regulators. The company also acknowledged that the problem increased the risk of accidents.

Lethal Airbags

BMW, like other major auto manufacturers, equipped many of its vehicles with Takata airbags which have been proven to be deadly defective.

Approximately 100 million vehicles across makes and models have been recalled worldwide over the last decade because of malfunctioning Takata airbags. The move was prompted by reports of exploding safety devices causing accidents, injuries and even death.

BMW has urged owners of certain older 3-Series and 5-Series cars to stop driving the vehicles until the airbags are removed and replaced.

Hear What Our Clients Have To Say

"I was blown away at how fast the settlement wrapped up. I was told about 8 months to a year for success, but Brian Wagner and his supporting team did a fantastic job, perhaps 6 months ahead of schedule. From my initial consultation with Erika, her assessment of my case, including the assigning of Mr. Wagner as counsel, the stress reducing assurance of paralegal Andy Kim, and the personable approach of Melanie, who eased my anxiety with her confidence and support in reception of my calls. Great job team!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
